A Range Rover rolled slow to the curb and stopped. The window dropped and the driver said: I can’t.
I said: don’t.
The passenger coughed and asked where he was.
Some distant planet, I said. You’ll come back.
They said thanks and I walked down the street.
Above us, a missile screamed through the sky into the sunset. I fell into a dive. It was Monday, there was football, but we didn’t have a home team. It was like the night had read us our rights.
